On July 18, 1965, U.S. Navy Commander Jeremiah Denton took off from the aircraft carrier USS Independence leading a 28-plane mission over the city of Thanh Hoa in North Vietnam. The Blue Star Mothers of America is a Congressionally-chartered, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization formed for the purpose of supporting America’s military, veterans, and their families, and to foster patriotism.  The Rochester, New York Blue Star Mothers Chapter 8 was founded on April 16, 2011.
