The New York Counts on Public Media is a set of initiatives funded by the New York State Education Department that has called on NYS public media organizations to create multi-platform initiatives to help promote knowledge on specific issues such a Aging in Together in New York, the Overdose Epidemic, Student Mental Health and educational resources to support those around the state. The projects include broadcast offerings, production, curation, online content, and special events. The NYS stations work to create news features, podcasts, and connections to educational and resources services.

WXXI joins all nine public television stations in these New York State initiatives. Stations will continue to examine the issues and share critical resources to inform these efforts.
