Young @ Heart's 40th Anniversary Show
Young @ Heart's 40th Anniversary Show
Mon, 05/15/2023 - 9:00pm - 10:00pm
Meet the world’s oldest rockers: the Young@Heart Chorus!
They celebrate their 40th anniversary in concert with songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed and more, and shine a light on members whose commitment to the performing trumps all. Young @ Heart's 40th Anniversary Show airs Monday, May 15 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV.
The Young@Heart Chorus strives to present a positive image of aging through music. Born of a belief that the often-marginalized elderly can make great contributions to art, we perform songs not commonly sung by older people to build bridges between communities and create shared musical experiences for young and old alike. Young@Heart works to show that age, race, ethnicity, and class need not be a barrier to making great music, and that no life circumstance should act as a hindrance to participating in or enjoying it. This program is part of "Aging Together in New York," an initiative driven by WXXI and public media stations across New York State that is addressing social isolation among older adults. Working in collaboration with the New York State Office For the Aging, WXXI and NYS public broadcasters will present a focused week of programming between May 15 and May 21.
“Aging Together in New York” will draw attention to the value of older adults in our communities and provide resources to help seniors build resilience and combat social isolation.
