American Masters: Renegades

Renegades: Five people with disabilities who changed history with ASL & Open Captioning

Renegades

(US, 2024, 60 min)
Renegades is a series of five 12-minute short films showcasing the lives of diverse, lesser-known historical figures with disabilities, exploring not only their impact on and contributions to U.S. society, but also the concept of disability culture, which honors the uniqueness of disability.

Renegades, American Masters’s latest short documentary series, celebrates the legacies of historical trailblazers with disabilities. Not only does the series champion these cultural icons, but also more than 90% of the RENEGADES production team identify as being an individual with a disability.

In observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and as part of American Masters’s Visibility, Inclusion and Accessibility (VIA) Initiative, new episodes of Renegades are released every Tuesday in October on the American Masters YouTube channel, PBS App and PBS.org and here on this page.

To find all videos with AD, please visit PBS Audio Described Videos to search and get help with activating AD on various devices. You can use the filter options on the left side of the page to filter by show and video type.
