    In April 2024, the Moon’s shadow is sweeping from Texas to Maine, as the U.S. witnesses its last total eclipse until 2044, and scientists scramble to unlock the secrets of our Sun. This extraordinary astronomical event is plunging locations in the path of totality into darkness for more than four minutes – nearly twice as long as the last American eclipse in 2017. Learn how to watch an eclipse safely and follow scientists as they work to unlock secrets of our Sun – from why its atmosphere is hundreds of times hotter than its surface, to what causes solar storms and how we might one day predict them.

    CREATE Showcase: Milk Street Spicy airs Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on WXXI-CREATE.

    Host Christopher Kimball and a team of cooks search the world over for techniques that can add a little kick, and convenience, to everyday American cooking. The series follows the journey from first bite to final product to showcase the recipe testing, editing and translation process.

    The series spotlights new flavor combinations to elevate simple dishes and provides a dose international inspiration for reviving classic recipes. Kimball also shares culinary tips and techniques designed to make home cooking easier — from making egg whites and seasoning a carbon steel pan.

    Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House: The Next Hundred Years • WXXI-TV

    This beautifully shot documentary spotlights the restoration of Boynton House –  the Frank Lloyd Wright house located on East Boulevard in Rochester, New York.

    Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House: The Next Hundred Years airs Sunday, August 11 at 3 p.m. on WXXI-TV.

    Owners Fran Cosentino and Jane Parker share how they acquired Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House, and how they worked to restore it to its original beauty using materials and processes that Wright himself intended.

    Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House: The Next Hundred Years, gives you an inside look into every room in the house and the amazing transformation that occurs during the restoration process. More than 150 talented individuals worked on the home over a two-year span to make Cosentino and Parker’s dream home a reality. The documentary shares details about the home’s structural repair, the unexpected insect infestation, the restoration of the 253 art glass panels, roof replacement, conservation of 17 pieces of the home’s original furniture,  landscaping, and much more.

    The history of the house, and that of its original owner Mr. Edward Boynton are also told by many experts including Jean France, Boynton Historian and Architectural Scholar; Carol Boynton Atwood, descendent of the Boynton Family; Eric Norden, owner of Eric Norden Restorations; and John E. Page, owner of Bero Architecture. The Landmark Society’s Executive Director Wayne Goodman also talks about the importance of preserving this national treasure.

    Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House: The Next Hundred Years is a co-production of WXXI Public Broadcasting, Fran Cosentino and Jane Parker.

    Art Happens Here with John Lithgow • Educational Resources

    A one-hour special documentary that follows the actor, author, humorist, and renowned performer as he goes back to school, to demonstrate the transformative power of arts education. This one-hour special features actor John Lithgow going back to school to demonstrate the transformative power of arts education. He immerses himself with teachers and students to explore four arts disciplines: dance, ceramics, silk-screen printing and vocal jazz ensemble. The program celebrates how arts education nurtures and inspires the hearts and minds of students of all ages.

    Art Happens Here with John Lithgow airs Friday, April 26 at 10 p.m. on WXXI-TV and On-Demand following the broadcast.

    Audiences that may wish to screen the program or clips from the program include: Fine arts organizations, schools, guidance counselors, educators, professional associations connected to the arts that serve youth, youth, youth out of school programs, parent-teacher associations, school boards, students considering taking participating in the arts in school.     Self-Help Graphics Blends Art and Activism With John Lithgow: John Lithgow visits Self-Help Graphics in Boyle Heights to learn from printmaking instructor Dewey Tafoya and student Yolitztli Torres. Tafoya shares the organization’s rich history as a community art hub. Assigned to collaborate on a printmaking project, John and Yoli are inspired by the nearby Mariachi Plaza for an artivism project, merging art and activism.

    La Cañada Students Shape John Lithgow’s Intro to Ceramics: John Lithgow joins the La Cañada Flintridge Ceramics Program, under the guidance of youth ceramics teacher Azzah Abdus-Shakoor, who guides students through the art of clay-making and the lessons hiding in mistakes. Engaging with classmates, Lithgow discovers their individual ceramic journeys and the invaluable teachings beyond the clay.
