WXXI and PBS stations across New York dedicate a week of programming and reporting to the opioids crisis

You may remember the Opioid Crisis: The Ripple Effect reporting series that our news team produced last April in partnership with several major media stations, one in Portland, Oregon, the other in Cleveland, Ohio. Since then we’ve seen a greater awareness about this epidemic that affects whole communities, not just those suffering from addiction. It has an effect on our economy, education system, justice system, and neighborhoods. But our work to raise awareness and connect our community to resources is not done, which is why this October, WXXI and PBS stations across New York State are dedicating a week of programming and reporting to the opioids crisis.

New York’s Opioids Crisis runs Monday, October 15 through Sunday, October 21. Our TV department has scheduled more than a dozen specials and documentaries addressing the issue, including a Frontline special and our own Second Opinion and Need to Know episodes. Our news department will produce several in-depth reports, and Connections with Evan Dawson will host his talk show from Studio A before a live audience.
