Valley Manor

Valley Manor, the first retirement community of its kind in the area, is a 501c3 not-for-profit independent senior living community founded in 1970 by the Presbyterian Residence Center Corporation. Located on East Avenue, it includes an eight-apartment Assisted Living Community, an Adult Social Day Program, and is affiliated with Kirkhaven, a culture change skilled nursing community.

According to Cilla Drinkwater, Director of Marketing, Seniorsfirst Communities and Services, Valley Manor's location, high-rise convenience, custom apartment homes, and collaboration with arts and cultural programming organizations contribute to what makes Valley Manor unique. "Distinguishing features of its 'Street of Shops' include a salon, library, deli and convenience store, art gallery, computer lab, chapel, auditorium, restaurant-style dining room, post office and bank, therapeutic pool and fitness center. Valley Manor has a 24-hour security staff, both underground and valet parking, and offers full customization options to apartment residents, along with a full calendar of arts and educational activities," adds Drinkwater.

When asked what was involved in the decision process of becoming a partner with WXXI, Drinkwater explained, "Our resident surveys consistently show WXXI as their dominant choice for television and radio programming. Many of our residents are members of WXXI. As a not-for-profit, we spend our marketing dollars very judiciously, and we feel the WXXI mission is compatible with our own and your audience is our audience. As a service provider, Valley Manor is sensitive to the deeper needs of society – respect, sense of purpose and meaningful living. We feel that partnering with WXXI 'brands' us as good stewards of these values."

On a personal note Drinkwater enjoys 30 minutes during her daily commute with both Morning Edition and All Things Considered on AM 1370. She's also a PBS Masterpiece Classic junkie!
