Tony, Tony, Tony!
Tony, Tony, Tony!
Sat, 06/11/2016 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm
The 70th Annual Tony Award celebration is on Sunday! With 16 nominations, Hamilton makes history.“It’s unbelievable — it’s absolutely humbling and incredible,” said the show’s 36-year-old creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was nominated for three awards himself, for his book, his music and his performance in the title role. Mr. Miranda has already won a Pulitzer Prize for his work on the show.
The show is most directly about the life and death of Alexander Hamilton, but it is more broadly, and boldly, about America itself — its origins and its aspirations — as it deftly uses contemporary music and a multiethnic cast to suggest that the revolutionary impulses of the nation’s founding generation are as relevant and as riveting today as they were in the 18th century.
The Awards recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2015–2016 season. This year’s ceremony will be held at Beacon Theatre in New York City – the one night of the year the biggest names in theatre, film, television, and music come together to entertain you.
In preparation for the Tony Awards, join host Robert Hammond for a music-filled edition of Stage Notes, featuring songs from the Tony Award nominated musicals and musical revivals. And the nominations are:
