Jukebox Broadway

Sat, 11/29/2014 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

A musical that uses preexisting songs to further the plot rather than ones written specifically for a show is a jukebox musical, and it is not something new to musical theatre. The first known one, The Beggar's Opera, was produced in 1728 and used a collection of popular music from the time. Since then, the jukebox musical has stayed much the same, taking the hits of popular musicians to create musicals with a varying degree of success.

Join host Robert Hammond as he showcases several jukebox musicals that made it on and off Broadway, including Million Dollar Quartet, Singin' in the Rain, and Mamma Mia.
