Join WXXI Education for a free media-making workshop using inspiration and resources from public media projects and series such  as PBS' Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Join WXXI Education for a media-making workshop! Learn how to use digital tools to encourage youth media-making. The session will explore some of the personal histories highlighted in PBS’ Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and media-making tools available for educators and youth leaders. 

The workshop will explore free-to-use media making tools and public media media-creation projects, such as StoryCorps, American Portrait, Rochester Teen Film Festival, and NPR Student Podcast Challenge. The session will explore how to engage youth in media-making and storytelling using inspiration and guidance from sample projects and public media series, such as Finding Your Roots. 



Media-Making Workshop details:

  • Who: Any educator or youth-serving leader working with youth in grades 5-12+ — this includes: librarians, classroom teachers, after-school or out-of-school program staff, or any other caring adult.

  • When: Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 4-6 p.m. ET

  • Where: Via Zoom.

  • Registration: Registration is being done via Eventbrite. Once registered, you will receive a Zoom link in your confirmation email. All sessions are free and open, but registration is required

  • Certificates of Training/Professional Development Credits: All participants will receive a certificate of training for each session showing their participation and the certificate will show NYS CTLE credit hours.
