5/1        From the Adler Theatre in Davenport, with an amazing lineup of musicians, including Marimba Duo from Percussion Scholarship Group, performing Octabones by Adi Morag, a 17-year-old saxophone player from Iowa City, and a string quartet from the Music Institute of Chicago.

5/8        From the e.g. (entertainment gathering) Conference in Monterey, California, with stellar performances by young musicians, including a 9-year-old pianist and a teenage double bassist! Renowned ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro teams up with From the Top alum and guitarist Roberto Granados to create a dynamic duo on stage.

5/15      From its home base of New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall we enjoy a program that includes a 17-year-old erhu player from Boston, an outstanding young children's chorus, and a trumpet player from Iceland.

5/22      From the Jerome L. Green Performing Space at WQXR in New York City, featuring From the Top and Carnegie Hall's Big Break Online Contest Grand Prize Winner: 17-year-old percussionist Marcelina Suchocka. Also featured are Big Break runners up Brannon Cho, Helen Gerhold, and Gideon Broshy

5/15            Throughout the centuries prayer has been set to music. Today Peter DuBois explores some of these wonderful settings

5/22      For the Fifth Sunday of Easter we hear music of resurrection and renewal, along with themes of new life and creation

5/29            Memorial Day commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service, and is also an occasion for remembering all those who have gone before. We’ll hear Music for Remembrance on With Heart and Voice.

5/30      In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Hershey Felder’s musical play George Gershwin Alone, WFMT presents a live international broadcast performance from the Pasadena Playhouse.  George Gershwin Alone is a play with music about the legendary American composer, George Gershwin. The show incorporates the Gershwins' best-known songs, from “The Man I Love” and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” through passages and songs from An American in Paris and Porgy and Bess, to a complete performance of “Rhapsody in Blue.”

5/2            Unfinished Symphonies Schubert wasn't the only composer who passed from this earth with an incomplete symphony on his shelf.  Elgar, Mahler, Bruckner and other symphonists left fantastic but tantalizingly unfinished music that we'll explore this week.

5/9            An Invitation to the Dance, Part 2  This week, we’ll focus on ballet music by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Schubert – even Beethoven!

5/16            Beethoven and the Piano 200 years after the composition of Beethoven’s five piano concertos, they’re still the giants in the repertoire.  Join us for a concerto a day, plus some of his more intimate works for the instrument.

5/23      I Didn't Know About You The making of Exploring Music constantly unearths hidden gems and unexpected delights.  This week, Bill shares some of his own musical discoveries and solicits suggestions from listeners.

5/18      We visit the innovative Silicon Valley region of California.  It’s not all bits and bytes and motherboards there, although we do include an audio tour of SLAC, the famous linear accelerator From the  Music-At-Menlo summer festival in Silicon Valley, CA, we enjoy a dynamic chamber music concert curated by cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han. 

5/25      From SummerFest in La Jolla, CA, we hear violinist and Music Director Cho-Liang Lin as he brings in fellow superstars of the chamber music world, including such luminaries as Emanuel Ax, Lynn Harrell, Carter Brey, and Chee-Yun.
