Music of classic Fairy Tales including Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel,  Prokofiev's Cinderella Suite and Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Suite is palyed by the Pittsburgh Symphony as part of their Once Upon a Time Gala.

The 2014-2015 season of the Pittsburgh Symphony begins this month on Mondays at 8:00 p.m.  Tune in on Feb 16th to hear the orchestra's Once Upon A Time Gala, followed on Feb 23rd by Orff's Carmina Burana.

2/16    Manfred Honeck leads the Orchestra's  Once Upon A Time Gala. Program:  Dvorak: Carnival Overture, Humperdink: Dream Pantomime from Hansel and Gretel, Prokofiev: Suite No. 1 from Cinderella, Tchaikovsky: Suite from The Sleeping Beauty, and Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme played by famous cellist Yoyo Ma. 

2/23   Manfred Honeck conducts Smith's Star Spangled Banner Stock's Symphony No. 6, and Orff's Carmina Burana. Carmina Burana features soloists Lisette Oropesa, soprano, Andrey Nemzer, tenor, Hugh Russell, baritone, and The Mendelssohn Chior of Pittsburg, directed by Betsy Burleigh.
