100 Years from Mississippi
(Rochester, NY) – 100 Years from Mississippi, airing Monday, September 12, 2022 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV, profiles the life of Mamie Lang Kirkland, who left Mississippi at seven years old to escape racial violence and would not return to the state until a century later. In this documentary, Mamie tells the story of her journey four years later, at 111 years old. She passed away at her home in Buffalo in 2020, but her story remains just as crucial of a testament to the enduring reality of racial terror in America as ever.
