Bach’s St. John Passion
(Rochester, NY) – Written in 1724, J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion is part of the German Lutheran passion-oratorio tradition. The passion narrative from the Gospel of John is recounted by the Evangelist (narrator), Jesus, Peter, Pilate and various servants. In this performance, recorded at Asbury First United Methodist Church in March 2019, Rochester’ chamber choir VOICES performs with soloists and orchestra. Bach’s St. John Passion airs Friday, April 10, 2020 at 8 p.m. on Classical 91.5.
Founded and directed by William Weinert, Voices is a professional chamber chorus consisting of western New York’s finest ensemble singers. They have appeared in concerts and broadcasts, performing music from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century.
