Re-Evolution: The Cuban Dream

(Rochester, NY) – Diving into the streets of Havana, Re-Evolution: The Cuban Dream introduces viewers to a social worker, an ethnographer, and three artists. Their stories provide unique perspectives on how Cuba is shaped by an ongoing culture of revolution that is more nuanced than meets the eye. Premiering Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV, Re-Evolution: The Cuban Dream–  the first in an eventual four-part series– explores pillars of Cuban society that are drastically evolving today.

Director Cray Novick first went to Cuba as a student and has been going back ever since. Diving into the streets of Havana, he meets artists, farmers, entrepreneurs, and everyday people on their journey to thrive and survive in a rapidly shifting society. The documentary kicks off Latin American Heritage Month, and the film and virtual reality project is an exercise in collective dreaming, asking “What is your dream for Cuba.” Will you dream with us? Use the hashtag #CubaDreams to connect with the program.

Virtual Reality “video letters” form the basis for a generative storytelling exchange connecting Cubans throughout Cuba with each other and with the Cuban diaspora like never before.
