Met Opera Radio National Council Grand Finals

(Rochester, NY) – Classical 91.5 presents The Met Opera National Council Grand Finals on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Hosted by Lawrence Brownlee with guest artist Susanna Phillips features winners Julie Adams (soprano from Burbank, CA), Patrick Guetti (bass from Highland Park, NJ), Ao Li (bass-baritone from Shandon, China), Yi Li (tenor from Shandon, China), and Amanda Woodbury (soprano from Crestwood, KY). The program was recorded March 30, 2014.

The Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions draws thousands of singers every year, each vying for a cash prize, a role on the Met stage and, if all goes well, a shot at big time opera. The Auditions started with a pool of nearly 1,500 young singers who compete in auditions throughout North America. That pool was eventually narrowed down to eight singers for the Finals Concert, each of whom would sing two arias with the Met orchestra, conducted by Marco Armiliato. Five prizes of $15,000 each were at stake; the remaining National Finalists receiving $5,000 to further assist in their careers.
