1370 Connection: A Tribute to Host Bob Smith

(Rochester, NY) – Last month, WXXI announced that Bob Smith, longtime host and producer of WXXI-AM’s 1370 Connection, would be stepping down from the midday talk show. This past April, Bob suffered a stroke and is currently in long-term rehabilitative care. Bob has been part of the WXXI News Team for more than 25 years, leading the community in civic engagement and civil discourse. In celebration of Bob's amazing years of work, AM 1370 presents a special two-hour broadcast honoring him. 1370 Connection: A Tribute to Host Bob Smith airs Thursday, October 17 from 12-2 p.m. on AM 1370.

The special will feature a series of recorded interviews with Bob, along with recorded greetings and tributes from listeners and colleagues. WXXI will also open the phone lines so that listeners will have the opportunity to join the tribute. The number to call is: (585) 263-WXXI (9994).

Bob started his career in broadcast news before his 20th birthday, when he landed his first full-time radio job as a reporter/anchor for Buffalo station, WBEN, after graduating from Cornell University in 1978. He holds a Ph.D. in American political and legal history from Cornell and taught undergraduate American political and diplomatic history courses to Cornell undergraduate students. He joined WXXI in March of 1988.
