The first performance of the Verdi Requiem at La Scala on May 25, 1874.

The New York Philharmonic performs a large variety of muisc this month ranging from Mozart to living composer Christopher Rouse. The month will end with a performance of Verdi's massive Messa de Requiem. 

3/1       Alan Gilbert conducts Brahms:  Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Rudolf Buchbinder, and Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, Pathétique.

3/8        An archival tribute to Lorin Maazel, conductor & violin. Featuring: Berg: Violin Concerto Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 Maazel: The Giving Tree Respighi: The Pines of Rome Mahler: Adagio from Symphony No. 10, and Lutoslawsi: Chain No. 2

3/15     Alan Gilbert conducts Rouse: Phantasmata Bloch: Schelomo with soloist Jan Vogler, and Brahms: Symphony No. 1 

3/22      Alan Gilbert conducts Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 25 with Emmanuel Ax, and Bruckner: Symphony No. 3 

3/29      Alan Gilbert conducts Verdi:  Messa da Requiem with solosits Angela Meade, soprano; Lili Paasikivi, mezzo soprano; Russell Thomas, tenor; and Eric Owens, bass baritone. The orchestra will be joined by the New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Fulmmerfelt.
