Count Basie – Through His Own Eyes
Count Basie – Through His Own Eyes
Sat, 09/26/2020 - 5:00pm - 6:00pm
This revealing documentary sheds light on Count Basie’s inner motivations, as well as his relationships with his wife and disabled daughter, the “hidden core of his creative life.”
Known as “the King of the Swing Kings,” Count Basie’s musical achievements were remarkable. He brought the blues to the big band podium and became the first African-American to win a Grammy Award. Told in Basie’s own words, Count Basie – Through His Own Eyes, airing Saturday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m. on WXXI-TV, uncovers the private passions and ambitions that inspired this world-famous bandleader and pianist. The program features rare performances and a treasure-trove of home movies, personal letters, family photos and interviews with former band members.
This special is presented as part of Move to Include, a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation designed to stimulate community dialogue about the perspectives of people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Its mission is to ultimately build a community that celebrates abilities.
