Indie Lens Pop-Up: Won't You Be My Neighbor? Educator Screening

Indie Lens Pop-Up: Won't You Be My Neighbor? Educator Screening

Tue, 03/19/2019 - 5:00pm - 7:00pm

WXXI's Indie Lens Pop-Up series presents a special screening for educators. This film takes an intimate look at America's favorite neighbor: Fred Rogers.

The Won't You Be My Neighbor? documentary tells the story of a soft-spoken minister, puppeteer, writer and producer whose show was beamed daily into homes across America for more than 30 years. In his beloved television program, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," Rogers and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life's weightiest issues in a simple, direct fashion. There hadn't been anything like Mister Rogers on television before, and there hasn't been since.

After the film, WXXI will host a discussion with the educator audience and a special Skype guest from the Fred Rogers Productions,  which continues Fred's mission and work on a daily basis. Educators will also receive information and learning resources from both Mister Roger's Neighborhood and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood to take back and integrate into their learning environments.

When: Tuesday, March 19th from 5-7:00 p.m.

Where: WXXI Studios - 280 State Street, Rochester, NY 14614

Please note: This screening is for educators only.

PD Credit: All attendees will receive New York State CTLE credits and a certificate for participation.
