WXXI Hosts Two Sensory-Senstitive Screenings of Dinosaur Trains on April 2

Release Date:
Fri, 03/18/2016

(Rochester, NY) March 18, 2016 – WXXI hosts two sensory-sensitive screenings of a brand-new episode of The Jim Henson Company’s Dinosaur Train on Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at WXXI’s studios (280 State Street, Rochester). The screenings are free and open to all families, but reservations are required and can be made by calling at 585-258-0200.

WXXI’s sensory-sensitive screening event will allow families to enjoy watching Dinosaur Train in a safe and inclusive environment. The screening will take place in a “lights-up, sound-down” environment so that kids can be themselves without worrying if someone will be disturbed by their noise or movement. In addition to the screenings, WXXI will have hands-on activities and crafts for the kids, plus community partners will be on site to share information autism and other special needs, and talk with parents.

In Junior Conductors Academy, Buddy and his siblings become friends with a dinosaur who knows a lot more about dinosaurs than Buddy, but has some trouble making friends. Like all dinosaurs, their new friend Dennis Deinocheirus has his own dinosaur features. And, like all of us, he has strengths in some areas and challenges in others.

This event is part of MOVE TO INCLUDE, a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation designed to promote inclusion for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Through programming and special events, WXXI and the Golisano Foundation look to build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities and include all people in every aspect of community life.
