WXXI Receives Six New York Emmy® Nominations

WXXI RECEIVES SIX NEW YORK EMMY® NOMINATIONS

(Rochester, NY) – WXXI has been nominated for six New York Emmy® Awards. Music for Life: The Story of New Horizons was nominated in the Arts: Program/Special category and Homework Hotline’s Move to Include: 3D Printed Prosthetics in the Health/Science: Program Features/Segment category.  Four additional nominations went to Beginning with the End, a documentary produced by Rochester filmmaker David Marshall and presented by WXXI.

Music for Life: The Story of New Horizons, a WXXI production, shares the heartwarming stories of a group of seniors who rekindled, or found for the first time, their passion for music and performing through the formation of the New Horizons band. WXXI’s statewide program Homework Hotline, where kids get help with their homework right over the air, received its Emmy nomination for its Move to Include segment entitled 3D Printed Prosthetics.  In the segment viewers visit the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to learn about a new technology called 3D printing and meet an RIT research scientist, who is using 3D printers to design, create,  and distribute plastic prosthetic hands to children who need them. Move to Include segments are produced in partnership with the Golisano Foundation, in support of an initiative designed to build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities. Beginning With The End, directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker David Marshall and presented by WXXI, received four Emmy nominations in the following categories: Education/Schools, Director: Post Production, Editor: Program, and Photographer: Program. The documentary follows the experiences of teacher Bob Kane and a group of 16-18 year-old high school students who have enrolled in his Hospice Class at the Harley School in Rochester, NY. The award winners will be announced at the 59th Annual New York Emmy® Awards gala on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at The Marriott® Marquis Times Square.
