(Rochester, NY) September 8, 2015 – Unleashed: The Pet Show, a new WXXI  radio series for pet owners and animal lovers premieres Friday, September 18 at 12 p.m. on AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WEOS-FM 89.5 (Geneva), and streamed live on WXXINews.org by clicking the listen live button. Part of special Friday programming on Connections with Evan Dawson, Unleashed will air every third Friday of the month. The hour-long program, hosted by cats’ owner Evan Dawson, looks at behavioral issues, the human-animal connection, pet health and care, rescue, therapy and work animals, animal intelligence, and more.

Beth Adams, WXXI’s local host of NPR’s Morning Edition, serves as contributing reporter for Unleashed.  She’ll produce special segments for the show and join Dawson in studio. Adams is a long-time animal advocate, past volunteer of the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, and the proud owner of Sassy, the cat. Each month, Unleashed guests will include a veterinarian, animal trainer, author, and/or pet owner – who will share valuable information and inspiring animal stories. The series invites listeners to join in the conversation by calling 1-844-295-TALK (8255) or on Twitter at: @EvanDawson.

Veterinarian Danielle Shemanski of Hilton Veterinary Hospital joins Dawson for the September 18th premiere episode. Listeners will learn more about a special diabetic alert dog named Sophia, and trained Courthouse Dogs that help some of the most vulnerable victims in our court system.

The pilot episode of Unleashed aired on February 27, 2015. Thanks to listeners’ feedback and production funding from Rufus Kendig, The Richard T. Bell Foundation, and The Lilliputian Foundation, Unleashed is now a monthly series.  Unleashed is produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting and is underwritten locally by Natural Pet Foods and The Sartini Group at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
