Unleashed: The Pet Show Premieres February 27 at 12 pm on WXXI Radio

(Rochester, NY) February 9, 2015 – Do you wish you could stop your dog from jumping on you the moment you walk through the front door? Do you have concerns about your pet and Lyme disease? Do you wonder why your cat drools? Well, help is on the way – in the form of a new radio show produced by WXXI. It’s called Unleashed: The Pet Show, and its pilot episode premieres Friday, February 27 at 12 p.m. on AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WEOS-FM 89.5 (Geneva), and streamed online at WXXI.org/listen.  The hour-long program shares stories of some of Rochester’s most remarkable pets and their owners and invites listeners to call in with their own pet stories and questions.

Unleashed is hosted by Beth Adams, who is also WXXI’s local host of NPR’s Morning Edition. Beth is a long-time animal advocate, past volunteer of the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, and the proud owner of Sassy, the cat. In the pilot episode, Dr. Erik Herrema from Penfield Veterinary Hospital joins Beth as co-host.

Dr. Herrema takes questions from callers on a variety of pet topics. The pilot episode also tells the story of  how the entire town of Greece came together to rescue a lost pug. Listeners will also meet Disco, the Penfield parakeet with his own YouTube channel. And, dog behaviorist Bob Minchella teaches owners how to keep their dogs from jumping.

Listeners are encouraged to join the conversation and share their comments about the pilot with the producers by commenting online at WXXI.org/unleashed or on Facebook at facebook.com/unleashedpetshow and on Twitter @UnleashedOnAir using the hashtag #Unleashed.

The pilot episode of Unleashed will repeat Saturday, February 28 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. on AM 1370 and streamed online at WXXI.org/listen.

If the program goes to series, Rochester listeners will be invited to call in once a month with questions about their dogs, cats and other pets. Unleashed is produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting and is funded in part by the generous support of Ben Kendig.
