(Rochester, New York) April 12, 2013 – Public television’s financial literacy series Biz Kid$, co-produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting and Biz Kid$, LLP, received the 2013 Parents’ Choice Gold Award in the television category. Gold Awards are given to those books, toys, games, videos, software, magazines, audio recordings, and television programs that are judged as the highest quality, most appealing products in their genre.

Biz Kid$ never strays from its mission, and the result is an exceptionally well-produced program, delivering clear and concise information in short, fast-paced skits and field packages,” writes Gina Catanzarite, the writer, teacher and TV producer who reviewed Biz Kid$ for the award.

Biz Kid$ is a half-hour TV magazine aimed at increasing financial literacy among tweens and young teens. Using a clever blend of entertainment and education, each Biz Kid$ episode shows kids how to make and manage money by introducing concepts of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. To keep young viewers engaged, the series includes a fast-paced mix of direct education delivered by young actors, sketch comedies, animation, and stories featuring real-life young entrepreneurs.  The show is complemented by a resource rich website, lesson plans, outreach activities, and a monthly electronic newsletter. The program premiered in January 2008 and has aired on more than 350 PBS affiliate stations around the U.S. In Rochester, it airs Fridays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. on WXXI-TV.

Biz Kid$ is distributed nationally by American Public Television. Major funding for Biz Kid$ is provided by National Credit Union Foundation, Coalition of America’s Credit Unions, and LoveMyCreditUnion.org. For more information about the series, go to www.bizkids.com .
