A Raising 100,000 Voices Project Presented by
WXXI and the University of Rochester Medical Center
Rochester, New York (April 25, 2013) – Raising 100,000 Voices, a project that encourages young adults to express, through video, issues that concern them, presents a special premiere screening of mini-documentaries on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Little Theatre, 240 East Avenue in downtown Rochester. Now in its 8th year, the project has hosted seven screenings of more than 200 videos (wxxi.org/education/raising100kvoices). More than 20 videos from 60 filmmakers will be featured at the May 7th screening, which is free and open to the public.
The Raising 100,000 Voices project is a national outreach effort designed to help understand the needs of the community from the point of view of those emerging into adulthood. WXXI and the University of Rochester Medical Center initiated the model in Rochester in 2005 with a partnership of youth-serving agencies.
Filmmakers for this series of videos includes groups from Citizen U, Rochester City School #52, Center for Youth Services, Inc., Charles Settlement House, Inc., Edison Tech, Community Place of Greater Rochester, Monroe County Youth on the Move, Youth Empowerment Production Program (Y.E.P.P.) of Grace Community Village, Inc., and Dazzle School.
This event was made possible by a partnership with Roadwork for Success in Young Adulthood, WXXI Public Broadcasting, and the University of Rochester Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry.
