(Rochester, New York) June 17, 2013 – WXXI and the Little Theatre join in Rochester’s celebration of jazz during the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival with special events, programming, and news coverage throughout the nine-day festival.

The Little Theatre offers free live jazz under The Freed Maxick Jazz Tent in the Little parking lot on Winthrop Street. Two local musical acts will perform nightly:

  • Tues., June 25, 5:30-7:30: Steve Grills and The Roadmasters l 8:30-10:30: Significant Other
  • Wed., June 26, 5:30-7:30: The Russell Fielder Trio l 8:30-10:30: Margaret Explosion
  • Thur., June 27, (no 5:30 show) l 8:30-10:30: The Pickpockets
  • Fri., June 28, 5:30-7:30: Josh Netsky l 8:30-10:30: GRR Band

The Little will also have food and beverages for purchase, including Mexican cuisine from Salena’s Mexican Restaurant, the official food sponsor under the tent.

WXXI will film five Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival (XRIJF) performances at Kilbourn Hall as part of season five of its XEROX ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL series, which will premiere spring 2014 on WXXI-TV, and on PBS stations across the country. The tapings will include:

  • Saturday, June 22:  The Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio
  • Sunday, June 23:  Louis Armstrong Society Jazz Band
  • Wednesday, June 26:  Gretchen Parlato
  • Thursday, June 27: Ravi Coltrane Quartet
  • Friday, June 28: Gregory Porter

This will be WXXI’s sixth year taping the series, which has been seen by more than three million viewers across the country. In addition to WXXI being on-site for the filming, it will present special XRIJF news coverage and jazz programming throughout the nine-day event. A list of programs and descriptions are below.

Jazz Breaks on AM 1370 and WRUR-FM 88.5 during Morning Edition
Friday, June 21, Monday-Friday, June 24-28
Morning Edition will feature Jazz Breaks each weekday at 8:35 a.m. with Morning Edition host Beth Adams and Open Tunings' host Scott Regan. Beth and Scott will chat about what's going on around the festival, performance reviews, and things that caught Scott's eye — and ears.
