Bracing for Irene

Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for New York in preparation for this weekend's arrival of Hurricane Irene.

WXXI Capitol Bureau Correspondent Karen DeWitt reports on the governor's announcement and the opening of the state's emergency management center outside Albany which will be operating 24 hours a day.

People along parts of the North Carolina coast evacuated mid-week in advance of the storm.
