This week we'll learn about the soulful and haunting, fado (meaning "fate" in Portuguese), which captures something essential about Portugal. Learn more about this style of music at http://www.pbs.org/soundtracks/stories/global/, a story from PBS.

This week European vocalist Mariza sings an example of a Portuguese song form called “fado,” and then we’ll hear the Brazilian derivation, the modinha by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Esta semana vocalista europea Mariza canta un ejemplo de un “fado,” una forma de canción portuguesa, y después vamos a escuchar una “modinha,” la derivación brasileño por Heitor Villa Lobos.

Concierto, a weekly program of classical music presented in Spanish and English, features classical music by Latin American and Spanish composers and musicians. The series will airs on Classical 91.5 Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
