This Year's Jazz Festival is Almost Here!
By Norm Silverstein ~ Posted Mon, 06/15/2015 - 2:32pm
This year's Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival kicks off this Friday and whether you spend one night or all nine there, you can be sure that WXXI will have you all jazzed up! From concert previews during Morning Edition to performance reviews during All Things Considered we'll have you all set whether you're coming or going. And if you want a different all-round perspective on the Jazz Festival, tune into Open Tunings on WRUR weekdays at 10:30am as the Democrat and Chronicles' Jeff Spevak joins host Scott Regan for a more irreverent take — plus a few tips to make your trip to the Festival a lot more fun. You'll also be hearing news reports peppered through our daily broadcasts as well as guests on Connections with Evan Dawson. And if you're a classical music listener, Classical 91.5 will pay tribute to the Jazz Festival by presenting classical that intersect both the jazz and classical worlds.
Meanwhile WXXI will be taping four Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival performances at Kilbourn Hall as part of its XEROX ROCHESTER INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL series, which will premiere in 2016 on WXXI-TV, and on PBS stations across the country. To get a taste of past episodes, be sure to watch encore episode of last year's Festival at midnight on select nights on WXXI-TV.
And I'm just scratching the surface! I haven't even talked about the hot food and cool drinks at the Little's Sangriaville (The Little is once again an official Jazz festival venue). For complete details and to hear missed Jazz-related radio reports, you can visit our Jazz Fest page here. We are looking forward to this year's Festival and I hope to see you on Jazz Street!
