WXXI invites Governor Paterson to its studios on January 26

Dear Friend,

With the Legislature back in session debating the recently released New York State budget, WXXI’s Center for Public Affairs has been working to bring you the news, analysis and behind-the-scenes details that you’ve come to expect from WXXI.  With reports from Karen DeWitt at our Albany News Bureau, interviews with key legislators by Bob Smith on 1370 Connection, and comprehensive reports from WXXI’s own local news team, you’d be hard pressed to find as extensive and compelling coverage on the topic from any other media source in the region.

To help keep you informed, WXXI is pleased to welcome Governor David Paterson to our Rochester studios Tuesday, January 26 to further discuss the budget and the general state of the state. Answering to Upstate – a partnership with our colleagues at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle – will extend the newspaper’s regular editorial board meeting by taking it online, on air and across the state.  As the Governor sits down with newspaper editors from the Upstate region, WXXI will capture the discussion and stream it live on (it will also be streamed on the Democrat and Chronicle’s website).  We will broadcast this special meeting in its entirety that evening (9 p.m.) on WXXI-TV and (10 p.m.) on AM 1370.  We will also be offering the program to public television and radio stations throughout New York State.

This will be a very rare opportunity to “have a seat” at an editorial board meeting with our state’s top elected official.   We applaud our colleagues at the Democrat and Chronicle for coming up with this unique way to keep Upstate on the front burner with the Governor.  We also appreciate Governor Paterson’s willingness to participate.  What you’ll see and hear, online and on the air, will be unscripted, unedited and perhaps surprising.

We hope you can tune in to Answering to Upstate on January 26 to learn how the proposed budget affects you and your community.  And remember, if you miss the program, we will be making it available for streaming on Though our long-standing partnership with the Democrat and Chronicle helped generate this opportunity to serve our region, it’s your continued support that makes special programming like this possible. Thank you.
