WXXI Brings a Focus to Arts

One of the long-standing hallmarks of WXXI has been its commitment to arts and culture. From the only all-classical radio station in Rochester to an ongoing national series on the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival to recent documentaries on the Eastman Theatre, Albert Paley, and New Horizons — WXXI is the recognized home for local arts.

With the launch of our new series, Arts InFocus, this reputation continues to grow. Hosted by WXXI’s Evan Dawson, the series presents in-depth stories and profiles of some of the area’s finest artists and arts organizations, as well as those beyond our state line. Arts InFocus is a collaboration with more than 30 PBS stations across the country – sharing content with each other to spotlight the amazing arts and cultural scenes of communities nationwide. So far, we have discovered a young dance troupe, an amazing fiber artist, and a performance by jazz legend, Joey DeFrancesco — along with many other stories. The program airs Friday nights at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV, but if you have missed any episodes, you can watch them all here on our Arts InFocus page. Be sure to watch this Friday — and if you have an idea for an organization or individual to profile, you can let us know!
