Some Great Upcoming Events in May

Norm SilversteinOne of the many benefits of membership to WXXI is the events and productions we present on an on-going basis. Aside from exceptional television and radio programming, comes the opportunity to extend your experience with those programs even further. Bringing the community together for these events is one of the ways that WXXI looks to strengthen engagement, while at the same time, providing our members with an exclusive benefit.

If you were at the station this past Sunday, you were able to attend a reception and screening of clips from the POV film, The Most Dangerous Man in America - a comprehensive look at the release of the Pentagon Papers in 1971 and the resultant political firestorm. That was followed with a Skyped, in-studio interview with Daniel Ellsberg – the compelling subject of the film, who smuggled top secret Pentagon papers to the New York Times. An appreciative audience took in a rare, personal insight and left with a far greater understanding of those tumultuous times in our history.

If you missed out on seeing Daniel Ellsberg, don't worry. With May upon us, we have many more upcoming events and outreach efforts – and with your membership to WXXI, many of our events are free! There's something going on for everyone, young and old, including:

Raising a 100,000 Voices screening, a free, public screening of a series of mini-documentaries produced by local teens, on Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Hatch Recital Hall, Eastman East Wing, 433 East Main Street, Rochester. For details, click here.

WXXI's Dinosaur Train Day at the New York Museum of Transportation, 6393 East River Road, West Henrietta on Sunday, May 15 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. PBS Kids' Dinosaur Train activities are free with museum admission. For details, click here.

A Musical Tribute to Fascinatin’ Rhythm, in celebration of the show's 30th anniversary, with the radio series host Michael Lasser and two wonderful singers Cindy Miller and Alan Jones on Sunday, May 15  from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harley School, 1981 Clover Street, Rochester.  Tickets are $25. For details, click here.

I hope that you can make it to one – or all – of these wide-ranging events. For a complete list of upcoming events, visit our Events page.  It's another way in which WXXI can thank you for your membership, while at the same time provide some uniquely shared experiences.
