We commonly hear from viewers and listeners about how much one of our programs affected their lives. Whether it’s a notable television special or an intriguing report on AM 1370, your response to our efforts helps us gauge the effect of our programming. Sometimes though, our programs get accolades in a more formal way, whether through awards or nominations. WXXI recently received three highly esteemed Bronze Tellys for RIT Big Shot: Painting With Light, Homework Hotline and our Second Opinion episode, “Mystery Diagnosis”. The Telly Awards Competition recognizes distinction in local, regional, and cable TV programs and commercials, as well as video and film productions. On the heels of those awards came the news that we had also received a New York Emmy Award nomination for our documentary, Benches on Parade.  We didn't take home an Emmy at the awards ceremony on April 1, but just being nominated is a great honor.

Though we are thrilled that our production team can be recognized for all their hard work, we don’t create these programs for awards. Unquestionably, we get more pride from the notes and e-mails from community members responding to something we produced. Whether it’s a local community-wide effort like the Benches on Parade, a life-changing episode of Second Opinion, or an NPR “driveway moment”, you can be sure that we intend to keep engaging and challenging our community with programs that only public broadcasting can provide.
