Join us for the encore broadcast of our Eastman Theatre documentary

As many in our community begin attending graduation ceremonies at the Eastman Theatre – or are preparing to attend upcoming Jazz Festival concerts there – I invite you to join us for an encore television production showcasing the recently completed Eastman Theatre and the Wolk Atrium.

WXXI presents a re-broadcast of its New York Emmy nominated film, Restoring a Masterpiece: The Renovation of the Eastman Theatre this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD. Produced by WXXI and Eastman School of Music, and narrated by Philip Seymour Hoffman, the program showcases the intricate renovation of a building that is itself a work of art. At the same time, it tells the story of the intertwined histories of the Eastman School of Music and the RPO, and demonstrates how a building can play a key role in the restoration of an historic downtown. Whether you watch it before you attend the theatre or after returning, I am certain you will have a deeper appreciation for the building known locally as simply "The Eastman". George Eastman's vision was for it to be the center of arts and culture for the City of Rochester. It has become home to a prominent music school and philharmonic orchestra. It has launched careers, hosted stars, and stood the test of time. With its major renovation completed, the new Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre is poised to be a jewel in the crown of a new downtown Rochester.

The program is now also being offered nationally by WXXI, further promoting our region as a center for arts and culture -- much as the national releases of the Rochester International Jazz Festival, OnStage and New York Wine and Table have. We are fortunate to live in a community as artistically vibrant as this one, and WXXI is dedicated to capturing and sustaining that spirit.
