2020 promises to be a banner year for anniversaries

It’s Susan B. Anthony’s 200th birthday, the 75th year of the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, and the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment (frequently called the Susan B. Anthony Amendment), granting women the right to vote. Throughout the year we’ll be honoring this remarkable year of women’s rights with special television, radio, online and film presentations – including American Experience: The Vote, which explores how and why millions of 20th-century Americans mobilized for and against women’s suffrage, premiering in the summer.

Our long-time Live from Hochstein and Hochstein at High Falls partner, The Hochstein School, celebrates its 100th year in 2020 and Classical 91.5 will pay tribute to the anniversary with the production of an hour-long special. Airing on Classical 91.5 in April, it will feature recordings of David Hochstein himself from 1917, a concert recording of The Hochstein Alumni orchestra, stories about Hochstein’s life and legacy, and much, much more.

2020 also marks the 50th anniversary of PBS. WXXI, along with PBS member stations across the country, will be celebrating throughout the year. This will include the launch of a digital and social media “quote campaign,” where we’ll be sharing quotes from PBS’ most popular celebrities such as Julia Child, Cookie Monster and Mister Rogers. We’ll be inviting you to share your favorites. Stay tuned for more anniversaries, as we celebrate our community in 2020.

Happy New Year!
