Julia Figueras

Julia Figueras
A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras is the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI-FM. In her 14 years at Classical 91.5, she has celebrated the lives of the world's great music through the legacy of their creations and the artists who perform them.

Figueras began her life in radio at WICN in Worcester, MA, and has been playing formats ranging from classical to rock to jazz, with a dash of talk, for the past 31 years (she started at age 6) in Boston, MA as well as at stations in Concord and Portsmouth, NH.  She received her bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Brandeis University. Despite her theater degree, Figueras' heart is in radio, although she wouldn't turn down a role opposite John Cusack or Viggo Mortenson.

The mother of two daughters, oboist Molly, and bassoonist Maggie, she has a passion for the Boston Red Sox and New York Times crossword puzzles, loves Dvořák, U2, Radiohead, Springsteen, and Brahms, and enjoys reading mysteries and histories. Currently, Figueras sits on the Board of Directors for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, with an honorary seat on the Amadeus Children's Chorale board.

Figueras also writes the WXXI Classical Music e-Newsletter. Sign up here!
