Quinn Bachand’s Brishen/Mike Herriott Quartet
Enjoy two performances in one great episode! This edition of Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival kicks off with twenty-year-old Quinn Bachand, one of Canada's most outstanding young musicians. With diverse musical talents and a bottomless pool of creativity, Quinn Bachand is an experienced performer, a prodigious guitar player and gifted multi-instrumentalist who is at ease playing a wide range of styles, from Celtic to Jazz. A devoted Django fan and lover of Gypsy Jazz, Quinn has assembled a top-notch ensemble of jazz manouche players to form BRISHEN, a sizzling hot gypsy jazz and swing band. Part two of this episode features canadian trumpeter Mike Herriott, a respected multi-instrumentalist in both the classical and jazz genres, is in demand as a lead trumpeter, jazz improviser, orchestral soloist, bassist, arranger and composer. He has toured extensively through North America and South East Asia and has shared the stage with a host of luminaries, including Maynard Ferguson, Rob McConnell, Doc Severinsen, Arturo Sandoval, Michael Buble, Slide Hampton, Kenny Wheeler, Phil Nimmons, Maria Schneider, Seth MacFarlane and more. The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, held in Rochester, New York – home of the Eastman School of Music, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Garth Fagan Dance and the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film– is a nine-day event that hosts more than 300 concerts at 19 venues. Now in its 13th year, the festival is the brainchild of John Nugent and Marc Iacona and draws more than 190,000 people from 30-plus states and 15 countries. From legendary performers and familiar favorites – to rising stars and new discoveries – this festival navigates all genres of creative improvised music from all corners of the world.
Shot at the Rochester Club, this 2016 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival performance was part of Oh Canada! Series Presented by The Canada Council for the Arts. This episode of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival series will air on WXXI-TV in Spring 2017.
