RPO Marimba Band
RPO Marimba Band
Wed, 03/21/2012 - 12:10pm
Tune in for a new season of Live at Hochstein with host Mona Seghatoleslami.
Classical 91.5/FM-HD91.5-1 kicks off a new season of Live from Hochstein with a new host – Classical 91.5's Mona Seghatoleslami and the RPO Marimba Band on Wednesday, March 21 at 12:10 p.m. Described as “one of the Rochester area’s unique and notable treasures” (SUNY Brockport The Stylus), the band was established in 1979 by Bill and Ruth Cahn and John Beck, and is comprised of members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's current Percussion Section. The band continues a half-century of tradition that was established in the 1950s by the Eastman School of Music's “Marimba Masters”.
Live from Hochstein is the longest running live broadcast concert series in Western New York. Each week listeners hear performances by the finest artists from the Rochester area's musical community, with programs ranging from soloists and chamber ensembles to large orchestras and choirs. The broadcasts are free and open to the public "brown bag" concerts, where business people, teachers, families, musicians, and students can spend their lunch hour enjoying classical music performed by local artists.
In addition to hosting Live from Hochstein, Mona is the host and producer of Classical 91.5 FM weekdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Before joining WXXI in 2010, Mona was Classical music announcer for West Virginia Public Radio, where she also produced radio features and wrote the "Classically Speaking" blog.
