Tune in for an exciting new season of Live from Hochstein.

WXXI and Hochstein School of Music and Dance kick off the 36th year of Live from Hochstein with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) under the direction of the new Maestro, Arild Remmereit on Wednesday, October 12 at 12:10 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD91.5-1.

Live from Hochstein is the longest running live broadcast concert series in Western New York. Broadcast live from the Hochstein Performance Hall (50 North Plymouth Ave. in Rochester), the series presents performances by some of the finest artists from the Rochester area’s musical community. Each of these free “brown bag” concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m., giving downtown business people, teachers, families, students and friends an opportunity to enjoy classical music during their lunch hour.

Live from Hochstein repeats that same day at 10 p.m. on Classical 91.5.

Today's Live at Hockstein

I guess the RPO's moving from a long run of pomp and circumstance into something we might call jump and shout. Remmereit makes faces like a happy fish while he conducts, but otherwise reminds me of Leonard Bernstein on the podium. At times, I thought he was tossing sandbags, imitating a metronome, bowling, or reliving a favorite video game. It was also nice to introduced to such a charming piece of music, made more enjoyable by his conducting capers. Welcome to Rochester, Maestro.
