The Seven Last Words of Christ

Considered to be one of his best compositions, Franz Josef Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Christ was first presented on Good Friday in 1787. Although originally scored for full orchestra, Haydn crafted an alternate version for string quartet which will be presented in this special by members of the Vermeer Quartet, including Mathias Tacke, v and Richard Young, vla; Rachel Barton Pine, v; and Wendy Warner, c. The Seven Last Words of Christ airs Friday, April 10 at 12 Noon on Classical 91.5/90.3/HD 91.5-1.

With performances in practically every major city in North and South America, Europe, the Far East, and Australia, the Vermeer Quartet has achieved an international stature as one of the world's finest ensembles. Formed in 1969 at Marlboro, its members are originally from Israel, Germany, New York, and Nebraska, thus providing a unique blend of musical and cultural backgrounds.
