This Old House: Lexington Modern
This Old House: Lexington Modern

Modern with a mission - a home with disjointed additions gets a modern update to become accessible for the whole family.
12-year-old Caffrey has a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Duchenne. Currently, he has trouble with some everyday tasks like getting up the stairs, so his dad happily carries him. However, it's expected that he will be using a wheelchair in a year or so. This active family of five needs to transform their home to be more accessible, so they're on a mission to retrofit their home as quickly as possible so that the whole family can enjoy it together. This Old House: Lexington Modern airs on Saturday, September 30 at 10 a.m. on WXXI-TV. Repeats Sunday, October 1 at 4 p.m.
With multiple additions on the house over the years, the modest mid-century modern has an odd flow. Included in the family's wanted improvements are an enlarged, easier-to-navigate kitchen; updated bathroom for accessibility; elevator to access the lower level; ramps when entering and exiting the house; small outdoor spa with lift system; and more.
