MLK – Activism and the Arts

MLK – Activism and the Arts

Mon, 01/17/2022 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

This radio broadcast of WNYC and the Apollo Theater's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration explores the influence of artists in the civil rights movement and how that legacy of activism in the arts continues today.

This year’s discussion focuses on how Dr. King leveraged the influence of artists and athletes in the civil rights movement and how that legacy of activism in the arts and sports continues today. We’ll examine how the struggle for social justice affected influencers from Nina Simone and Muhammad Ali to Beyoncé and Colin Kaepernick and how they, in turn, affected the struggle for social justice. MLK – Activism and the Arts airs Monday, January 17 at 12 p.m. on AM 1370/WRUR-FM 88.5 and WXXINews.org. This special will repeat Monday evening at 9 p.m.
