WXXI presents all four HomeStage at The Little concerts back to back.

In late October WXXI-TV launched a four-part series called HomeStage at The LittleWhile so many musicians have been left to perform in isolation amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, WXXI invited four of Rochester’s favorite bands to each record a live session, audience-free, on stage at The Little Theatre. On Friday, December 11 at 8:30 p.m., WXXI-TV presents all four concerts back to back.

Herb Smith and the Freedom Trio, one of Rochester’s premier jazz combos, kicks off the evening. Herb Smith, who plays with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, leads the Freedom Trio on trumpet. Peter Chwazik, a lecturer at Ithaca College, playing bass and Dana Wendel, an Eastman student, on drums completes the group.

Following the trio is alt-rock and psychedelia band MaybirdFusing expansive psychedelia with evocative roots rock accents, Maybird consists of singer/songwriter Josh Netsky, drummer Adam Netsky and guitarist Sam Snyder. Special guests Mikaela Davis and Cian McCarthy join the band on stage.

Next up is rap and hip-hop collective, Moses Rockwell, Brendon Caroselli, and Gary Lamaar. Moses, an emcee and beat maker, is known for his humorous and self-deprecating lyricism with jazz inspired backdrops. Brendon is a drummer, educator, bandleader, and composer, who dedicates the majority of his creative focus into his all-original seven piece jazz fusion band, Lost Wax Collective. Gary Lamaar is a rapper, producer, drummer, and increasingly uninhibited songwriter.

Danielle Ponder and her band serves up the finale with an incredibly powerful and soulful performance. Danielle is joined on the Little Stage by band members Avis Reese, Derek Bennett, Levi Bennet, and Jonathan Sheffer.

HomeStage at The Little is made possible with support from Dee Mosteller and Henry Simon, and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
