Greater Rochester Choral Consortium Virtual Holiday Prism
Greater Rochester Choral Consortium Virtual Holiday Prism
Fri, 12/18/2020 - 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Join WXXI Classical for a Virtual Holiday Prism Concert that features ensembles from the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium.
This has been a year like no other, without holiday concerts and traditional celebrations, so WXXI Classical offers a Virtual Holiday Prism Concert with ensembles from the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium on Friday, December 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on FM 91.5 The program is hosted by WXXI’s Brenda Tremblay and Dan McInerney, treasurer of the GRCC Board. Journalist Norma Holland will join them for some thoughts about the importance of music this holiday season. Printable program here (PDF)
The concert will be accompanied by a Virtual Holiday Listening Party on WXXI Classical Facebook page. Listeners can share their thoughts about the music and the holiday season, enjoy wine from a local establishment, and participate in a post-concert discussion with Brenda and Dan.
GRCC, a group of 28 member ensembles, regularly presents PRISM-style concerts, in which a number of ensembles perform in uninterrupted succession from different locations around a concert hall. This virtual prism concert includes beloved carols and holiday favorites, along with selections from larger seasonal works by John Rutter, Ola Gjeilo, J.S. Bach and others.
The program features performances by the Sanctuary Choir of Asbury First UMC, Musica Spei, Image City Sound Chorus, Concentus Women’s Chorus, Genesee Valley Orchestra and Chorus, Robert Dean Chorale, Madrigalia, Genesee Valley Children’s Choir, Rochester Oratorio Society, Rochester Rhapsody, Lyric Chorale, Greece Choral Society, Voices, and Amadeus Chorale Youth Singers.
The Rochester area is home to an abundance of excellent community and professional choral ensembles, where nearly a thousand singers find vocal challenge and artistic fulfilment. Since 1996, the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium has enriched the Rochester community’s cultural environment by fostering the choral arts.
