Straight-talking Australian relationship coach Liz Dore helps six young adults with intellectual disabilities find love and acceptance on their own terms.

Finding love can be a tricky business at the best of times, but for people with neurological diversity or learning disabilities such as Asperger’s or Down Syndrome, the challenges and stigma surrounding dating and relationships can be overwhelming. Love Me As I Am, airing Friday, October 23 at 10:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV, follows straight-talking relationship counselor Liz Dore on her mission to help six young adults with intellectual disabilities find love and acceptance on their own terms

Dore’s pioneering program is put to the ultimate test as she guides this group on an adventure of a lifetime from awkward first dates to managing a relationship, with the eventual goal of taking them to their first debutante ball.

This special is part of Move to Include, a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation designed to promote inclusion for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. This Move to Include model expands nationally this year to five additional communities with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private corporation funded by the American people.
