Make Music Rochester

Make Music Rochester

Sun, 06/21/2020 - 11:00am - 11:00pm

Make Music Rochester will be bringing the music VIRTUALLY this year and feature graduating senior recitals.

What does that mean? The basics are the same: celebrating the summer solstice and fostering community along with 1000+ cities globally through free music making by all. The only difference is we can’t be physically gathered in groups for the 2020 celebration given current events. There are lots of ways to join the fun: you can take a free music lesson, play in the "World's Smallest Marching Band," even virtually busk with PayPal and Venmo available.

This year WXXI and Classical 91.5 are excited to be part of the day by sponsoring the virtual Senior Recital Stage on Sunday, June 21st. This is a spot specifically for 2020 grads to post or livestream their senior recitals. It is for both seniors in high school and seniors in college. Seniors should register with this venue here to have your recital presented.

Each event is or will be linked to where you can attend live or stream previously recorded performances! Watch here on June 21 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Make Music Rochester is modeled after a Parisian tradition (Fête de la Musique) that began in 1982 as a tribute to the Summer Solstice.  More specifically, each June 21st Paris is filled with musicians of all kinds performing on sidewalks, lawns, balconies, in parks, etc. for anyone to enjoy at no cost.  In 2007, Fête de la Musique crossed the Atlantic with the debut of Make Music New York.  Ever since, cities around the world have been starting their own Make Music days.
