Hochstein at High Falls: The Brothers Blue

Hochstein at High Falls: The Brothers Blue

Thu, 07/25/2019 - 12:10pm - 1:00pm

While The Brothers Blue are rooted in the tradition of old-time fiddle music, their ability to pull elements from a myriad of diverse genres including Irish music, bluegrass, and country has created a sound which is entirely their own.

Come spend an afternoon at Hochstein at High Falls and fall into a world of sweet harmonies. The High Falls Business Association has once again teamed up with The Hochstein School, and WXXI to present Hochstein at High Falls, a noontime summer concert series. The series includes ten outdoor concerts Thursday afternoons at 12:10 pm during June, July and August. Weather permitting, they will be held in the Granite Mills Park near the Pont de Rennes Bridge and will feature a diverse mix of musical artists and instructors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating and lunch, or pick up a great lunch at area restaurants (like La Luna and Fina's Cafe). Each performance runs approximately 50 minutes.

Rooted in the fertile tradition of old-time fiddle music, The Brothers Blue grow a sound all their own – offering a hybrid which unites fresh, original songwriting with elements from country, bluegrass, Cajun, and Irish music. The band features Hochstein banjo instructor Ben Haravitch on banjo, guitar, and bass; Matthew Sperber on guitar and bass; and Charlie Coughlin on fiddle and mandolin; with all three contributing to the vocal harmonies. “These guys are the real deal!,” says  Joe Dady of The Dady Brothers. Winners of Golden Link’s 2015 New Voices Emerging Artists Showcase, The Brothers Blue perform original and traditional American folk music throughout the Buffalo, Rochester, and Finger Lakes regions.
