Alfred Hitchcock

The Directors, a three-part series, profiles pioneering film directors of the 20th century, exploring their lives and featuring classic moments from their careers.

The premiere episode, Alfred Hitchcock, airing on July 25th, 2019 at 10:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV follows the life of director, producer and screenwriter Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, born in London, England, on August 13, 1899. In 1925, Hitchcock directed his first film and began making the "thrillers" for which he became known the world over. He moved to Hollywood in 1939. There, he began to define his unique style of film-making, apparent from the early days of The 39 Steps and The Lodger, to the Hollywood glamour of North by Northwest and Rear Window, to the terrifying Psycho and The Birds. His cameo appearances in each of his films, as well as his interviews, film trailers and the television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-65), made him a cultural icon.
