WXXI's production and presentations earn four New York Emmy Awards.

Opioids from Inside, produced by WXXI, Blue Sky Project Films, and PBS WORLD, received a New York Emmy® Award in the Director: Non-Live (Post Produced) category at the 62nd Annual New York Emmy® Awards gala in New York City on May 4th. Three additional Emmy awards went to Turn the Page and Brewed in New York, of which WXXI served as the presenting station.

Co-produced by David Marshall, who served as director, and Fiona Willis, who served as writer, Opioids from Inside shares the story of three women, all mothers, who were imprisoned for opioid-related crimes. The film follows the story arc of their lives before drugs, the power of the drugs that took over, and the effect addiction had on their families as they spent time in and out of jail, while their children were raised by other people.

Opioids from Inside is part of Opioid Crisis: The Ripple Effect, a Corporation for Public Broadcasting-funded public media collaborative between WXXI, OPB (Oregon), and Ideastream (Ohio) designed to bring more awareness to this epidemic. Funding was also provided by The Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Foundation. The documentary can be viewed online here:
